Housed in the garden of The Valentine from September  2020 through January 2021, Her Flowers is a mural project commissioned by Afrikana Independent Film Festival and designed to be a way for us, collectively, to honor the Black women who have lost their lives to police brutality in the United States. This four-sided free-standing mural, painted by a collective of Black male artists rooted in Richmond, VA, holds the names of 90 women whose lives were violently taken from 1985 to 2020. We know there are more whose stories will never be told, but through this work, we hope to hold space for all those women, known and unknown, and the people who love them. 

Afrikana offers thanks to the eight artists that gave their time, energy, and talents to complete this work, as well as the generous team at The Valentine for their support and for opening their doors to house this installation.
